LET'S MEDITATE!

Hi my friend,

I hope life is going well. I don’t know about you, but I have been so busy filling my days with as much as I can, that the time is flying by. My podcasts have been keeping me busy, especially Grandma Has A Story. I have received so many requests for stories that it’s become difficult to know which one to write first. But sometimes, with that kind of problem, we can feel overwhelmed and worried about trying to please everyone … and then the feeling of not wanting to do anything can happen. My go to action in situations like this, is to meditate. I find meditation relaxes me and allows me to think a little clearer … and then I am ready to take action.

WHY MEDITATION IS GOOD FOR US

We can often feel under a lot of pressure in life which directly affects our mood, and makes us feel less positive and happy. Meditation has a calming effect on our body, and is said to clear our minds and create feelings of peace. It can be enjoyed by anyone - even children - and there is no limit to how often we can meditate. Here are some of the benefits of meditating - it makes us happier as it is a positive emotional experience; it reduces stress because in that moment of meditating we focus on feeling good; scientific studies have shown that those who meditate regularly are less likely to continually become anxious about things; the positive results we receive from meditation are immediate.

HOW LONG SHOULD WE MEDITATIE FOR?

The simple answer to this is, for as long as we want to. But when we decide to start a daily meditation practice, a minute is better than nothing. Some people struggle with meditation because they feel each session should be for at least half an hour or more, and find that daunting. But this simply isn’t true. If something is a struggle we are less likely to repeat it. At the very beginning a new habit, we mustn’t set ourself a big goal. It’s a bit like running for the first time, and deciding to start with a marathon … that has failure written all over it. We should start with a short run and build ourself up to doing the marathon. The same goes for meditation. Start with a minute everyday and very soon that minute will turn into two minutes, and as each day passes, eventually we will be enjoying thirty minute sessions. I find that doing a fifteen minute meditation session works great for me. If you are new to meditation, start of with a times and build up to what works well for you. Guided meditations are a great starting place for beginners, but there are lots of different ways to meditate …. and this is the subject of my new podcast, ‘Five Ways To Meditate With A Difference’. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/tranquil-spirits/id1480878456#episodeGuid=a9724ee2-4cf8-432a-85a4-de775422290a

Jacqueline
